LGBTQIA+ Issues

If you're queer, you might find it difficult to find a therapist who understands you. You might have to explain your identities and experiences in a way that feels invalidating or re-traumatizing. When you are already trying to find compassion and love for your own identities, it can be exhausting to have to lead your therapist through it, too.

While I do not know everyone's experiences, being queer myself often gives clients space to not have to explain, but just show up as they are. I use queer-affirming and feministic practices that acknowledge how prejudice and internalized messages can often affect both your own self-concept and treatment from others.

Most of my queer clients are transgender teens and adults; polyamorous, bi-sexual, or gay/lesbian individuals; and those who are still questioning. Together, we use somatic interventions, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) to explore your inner world and find ways to live authentically and in alignment with your true, honest self.
